SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to biochemistry and optical methods for detecting plant pathogens. Disclosed is a method for pre-symptomatic detection of viral infections in plants using PAM-fluorometry, which can be used to select resistant to viral infections plant varieties during selection, as well as when assessing the effectiveness of the developed plant protection agents. Method is based on analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence values using a pulse-modulated fluorimeter with an imaging function. Detection of infected leaf areas is carried out on the basis of the ratio value exceeding 1.5-2 for NPQ and exceeding 1.5-2.5 for ΦPSII, as well as on the basis of spatial distribution of heterogeneity.

EFFECT: high accuracy of detection by eliminating false positive findings; disclosed method also enables to use stationary fluorimeters when working with leaves of large plants, which cannot be placed in the device, which provides high speed of analysis while simultaneously observing several leaves separated from different plants.
