SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, namely to a self-calibrating respiratory sensor device and a method of calibrating a respiratory sensor. Respiratory sensor device comprises a sampling unit with a housing for receiving expired air from a user, an electrochemical gas sensor located inside the housing for detecting gaseous carbon monoxide (CO) in the expired air sample and a processor in electrical connection with the sensor. Time interval during which the constant level of CO concentration is scattered to the level of CO in the environment is determined. Time constant is calculated based on the time interval and reduction from the constant level of CO concentration to the level of CO in the environment. Sensor is calibrated to take into account the shift of the transient response of the transducer by applying a time constant to the transient response of the transducer.

EFFECT: longer service life of the respiratory sensor with higher accuracy of sensor readings.
