FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for evaluation of thickness of lacquer coating of electric steel strip. Disclosed solution relates to a method of assessing the thickness of a lacquer coating having thickness of 0.5-5 mcm, on a moving steel substrate comprising a lacquer coating; method includes the following stages: i) illumination of said moving steel base with a coating using an illumination source forming an angle of incidence from 51 to 61° relative to normal of said steel base, ii) p-polarization of light after reflection from said moving steel base and measuring light intensity after reflection from said moving steel base, iii) evaluation of absorption spectrum of said lacquer coating in said wavelength range, iv) estimating the area under the curve of AMEAS absorption spectrum, v) estimating the thickness of the varnish using said area under the curve and a function relating the thickness of the varnish and the area under the absorption spectrum curve of said coating.
EFFECT: possibility of estimating thickness of lacquer layer applied on moving steel base in order to control quality of steel strip with coating and adaptation of key parameters of coating process.
