FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of steel products. Disclosed is a method of making a steel product, comprising a step of obtaining characteristics of a layer of oxides (22) present on a movable steel substrate (21). Characteristics obtaining involves the following stages: obtaining a portion of a steel substrate, having a layer of oxides, wherein the portion defines an oxide surface, collecting light (Lr) from said oxide surface using hyperspectral camera (20) in order to obtain intensity values (Iλ,M), which are, respectively, the intensity of part (Lrλ,M) collected light, where each part, respectively, is assembled from one of plurality of points (M) located on said oxide surface, and is respectively characterized by wavelength (λ) from plurality of wavelengths, comparison of obtained intensity values with reference intensity values obtained for reference oxides; calculating the amount of reference oxides in the layer.
EFFECT: high rate of obtaining characteristics of the layer of oxides.
