FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical analysis in the infrared range and can be used to solve problems of classification and identification of flammable and combustible liquids when investigating fires, including aircraft and ground equipment. Method of classification and identification of flammable and combustible liquids by residues (traces) from their combustion in the investigated medium or on the object involves measurement in the infrared region of the spectrum of the residue and comparing the obtained FTIR spectrum with characteristic absorption bands in the FTIR spectra of flammable and combustible liquids and their combustion products, positioned as a possible analogue of the analysed residue of burnt flammable and combustible liquid. Complete coincidence provides a basis for concluding on their proximity or identity. Characteristic absorption bands in the infrared region of 4200-400 cm-1, identifying an analogue of flammable and combustible liquids are determined both in the FTIR spectrum of the analogue of flammable and combustible liquids, and in the FTIR spectra of condensation products of vapours (soot), liquid pyrolysis products and soot-like solid particles formed after combustion of the analogue of flammable and flammable liquids.

EFFECT: classification and identification of type and grade of flammable and combustible liquids by residues (traces) of their combustion.
