FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to microbiology and chemical-pharmaceutical technology and concerns a method of treating onychomycosis and other diseases caused by pathogenic fungi. Proposed method comprises applying a gel with a photosensitizer (PS) to the affected surface and conducting laser irradiation, wherein the PS used is the following azine derivative of pyropheophorbide methyl ester a: 31- (4-pyridine) hydrazone-methyl ether of pyropheophorbide d, gel containing 0.01 g of PS per 100 ml of gel is used; after application on affected surface for 30 minutes, after that, exposure is performed in the wavelength range of 710–740 nm at power not less than 5 W, and the exposure time is 5–10 minutes.
EFFECT: disclosed method is an effective method of treating patients suffering from fungal infections of the nail plate and adjacent tissues.
