FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing 4-methoxycarbonyl-2,7-octanedione, which can be used in synthesis of polyesters, biocides and other practically important compounds. Method consists in fact that 1,2-dimethyl-4-methoxycarbonylcyclohexene is oxidized with ozone in methylene chloride at temperature of -70 °C with subsequent treatment with dimethyl sulphide.
EFFECT: high selectivity and high output of the end product.
