SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing 4-methoxycarbonyl-2,7-octanediol, which can be used as a monomer in producing polyesters, biocides and other practically important compounds. Method involves oxidation of 1,2-dimethyl-4-methoxycarbonylcyclohexene with ozone in methanol at a temperature of -70 °C with subsequent treatment with sodium borohydride.
EFFECT: high output of the end product.
