FIELD: testing; cosmonautics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to testing equipment, in particular to testing of space equipment for total tightness. Method of testing for total tightness of a hollow article, having sections with high and low tightness requirements in the cavity, consists in that said article being at external atmospheric pressure is evacuated, its evacuation is stopped and the value of total leakage of the tested item is estimated by increase of pressure in the tested item for a certain period of time after the termination of vacuumizing. In addition, after evaluating the value of the total leakage of the tested article, the above actions are carried out to test sections of the cavity of the said article with high requirements for leakage and excluding from the test process sections of the cavity of the tested article with low requirements for leakage, value of total leakage of sections of the cavity of the tested article with high requirements for leakage is estimated. Then, sections of tested article cavity with low requirements for leakage are returned to testing process, and the value of the total leakage of the sections of the cavity of the tested article with low requirements for leakage is estimated from the difference in the values of the total leakage of the tested article and the total leakage of the sections of the cavity of the tested article with high requirements for leakage.

EFFECT: improving the quality of tests by increasing the reliability of the results of tests of hollow products for overall tightness, increasing the reliability and durability of products during operation.
