FIELD: aviation; physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to navigation of aircraft, rockets, satellites, guided missiles and other aircraft. Disclosed is a system for positioning an aircraft on pitch, heading and roll angles based on use of the property of an electromagnetic wave, that is maintaining orientation of the polarization vector during propagation. Method employs a radio beacon comprising two transmitting antennae with different orientation angles of radiating dipoles, and on-board the aircraft there are three receiving antennae with mutually perpendicular orientation of dipoles, through which the polarization vector of the electromagnetic wave in aircraft location area it is decomposed into three mutually orthogonal components corresponding to three angular parameters of aircraft orientation.
EFFECT: providing positioning by three rotation angles using one radio beacon, eliminating the use of such devices as a gyroscope, a magnetic compass, and so forth.
