FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for measurement of elements in a sample of liquid metal or alloy by means of laser-spark emission spectrometry (LIBS-spectrometry). Device comprises a pulse excitation laser and an instrument head comprising: a laser beam channel, a laser excitation optics, receiving optics for receiving radiation from plasma generated as a result of interaction between laser and sample, chamber with an open bottom extending upward from the flat lower surface of the tool head, wherein said channel extends to said chamber and gas feed channel extends into said chamber with open bottom. Laser and laser excitation optics are arranged so that when the tool head is located at a distance from the sample surface in range of 1–10 mm, the focal point of the pulsed excitation laser is located under the surface of the sample at a distance exceeding one Rayleigh length of the focused laser excitation beam.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining the number of elements in a liquid metal or alloy sample.
