FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly, to adjustment of foamed slag height in steel making in arc steel furnace, primarily, with controlled content of nitrogen. Procedure consists in melting metal charge, in refining liquid metal, in determining height of foamy slag and in controlling supply of foaming material. During the melting period, performing the phase currents fluctuation calculation and determining the foamy slag height based on the slag actual thickness dependence on the phase currents fluctuations values, wherein foaming material feed is adjusted subject to foamed slag height and electric arc length. When the height of the foamy slag is less than the arc length, the foaming material supply is increased and is carried out at a constant rate, at foamed slag height exceeding arc length, current is increased to stop feeding of foaming material.
EFFECT: improving accuracy of calculation and control of height of foamy slag at providing its constant height, excluding the use of data for calculation from external sensors.
