FIELD: quantum electronics. SUBSTANCE: discharge current is modulated in gas-discharge plasma by harmonic signal for measuring relaxation time of concentration of electrons. Current modulation depth is measured as well as voltage drop in positive discharge column. Phase difference between variable components of voltage drop in positive column of gas discharge and current passing through the discharge. The value of frequency is determined at which phase shift between variable components of current and voltage is equal to Π/2/2. Relaxation time is determined from the relation. Method permits to measure relaxation time in the axis of positive column of gas-discharge plasma is dishes with narrow capillary tubes. EFFECT: improved precision; simplification of measurement. 2 dwg
