FIELD: manufacture of microwave devices. SUBSTANCE: method includes shaping plasma in transit-time channel of slow-wave structure under analysis; introducing microwave oscillations in the latter at frequency variation obeying linear law; determining resonance responses of frequencies corresponding to phase incursions in slow-wave structure section within operating range using resonance method; building dispersion characteristic basing on data obtained; in the process, plasma column is formed in transit-time channels of slow-wave structure section and in calibration resonator by starting electrical discharge in isolated area; discharge current is varied, and position of additional resonance response shaped by calibration resonator is recorded at frequency found from equation given in description of invention. Device implementing proposed method has section of slow-wave structure being analyzed in the form of periodic chain of resonators using common transit-time channel and microwave- oscillation input and output devices, microwave sweep oscillator, indicating unit of VSWR and attenuation meter, detector of incident waves of microwave oscillations, and detector of microwave-oscillation wave passed through or reflected from slow-wave structure being analyzed. Device is provided in addition with discharge tube having cathode and anode, adjustable discharge-current source, calibration resonator with transit-time channel and microwave-oscillation input and output devices, detectors of microwave-oscillation wave passed through or reflected from calibration resonator.
