FIELD: metallurgy; methods of manufacturing magnesium-based alloys. SUBSTANCE: this method of producing magnesium-alloy castings prescribes melting charge in protective gaseous atmosphere, modifying it with cooling agents and then refining it with inert gases by blowing through chemically stable filter having pores measuring 30 to 60 mcm in size. Combination of processes of modification and refining and use of filters having above-mentioned pore size allows higher purity of melt, better mechanical properties and greater corrosion resistance. EFFECT: better mechanical qualities and higher resistance to corrosion. 1 tbl
