FIELD: organic chemistry and technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of acids, in part, a natural bifunctional dicarboxylic acid. Synthesis is carried out by oxidation of 4-methyl-4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,3-dioxane with 50-70% HNO3 at 50-60 C in the presence of a catalyst - boric acid taken at amount 0.05-0.1 wt.-% as measured for an initial dioxane for 1-1.5 h. Mass ratio of reagents = 1:(10-15). Under these conditions the yield of the end substance is increased to 97.5-98.3% and process time is decreased to 1-1.5 h. EFFECT: increased yield of the end product, intensified process. 1 tbl
