FIELD: plasma engineering. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has electromagnetic-energy source 1 and axisymmetric plasma chamber 2 built up of plasma-accelerating section 3 formed by coaxial electrodes 4 and 5 connected to source 1 and plasma deceleration section 6. Annular gap between electrodes and 5 is one form of converging-diverging nozzle and section 6, in the form of annular gap between coaxial electrodes which are extensions of electrodes 4 and 5 of accelerating section 3. Source 1 is built up of spiral explosion-magnet generator 10 with exponential rise of current and current switch 11 connected to output of explosion-magnetic generator 10 in parallel with plasma chamber 2. Current switch 2 is essentially current interrupter. Slow rise of voltage across annular gap during initial stage of operation of generator 10 makes it possible to prevent premature gas breakdown and thus to form initial magnetic field in deceleration section 6. EFFECT: simplified design, reduced mass and size of apparatus due to combining functions of initial magnetic field source and electromagnetic energy source. 4 cl, 4 dwg
