FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, to high-current switching equipment and may be used for generation of multi-megampere current pulses in low-impedance loads with time of order increase of one and less than a microsecond. The method consists in a break of a circuit of an inductive energy accumulator supplied from a pulse current source, by means of closure of a conductor, which short-circuits the circuit, under action of magnetic field pressure developed with a current flowing along the conductor, with subsequent switching of current into a load. Opening is carried out, initiating development of magnetic hydrodynamic instabilities at local non-uniformities of a conductor causing its damage. The device comprises a pulse source of current and an inductive energy accumulator, the circuit of which comprises coaxial electrodes, and a conductor that short-circuits them, being installed in a vacuum cavity between electrodes with gaps in their respect. The conductor surface, which is exposed to magnetic field pressure, has local uniformities, arranged in the form of one or a row of serially arranged circular bores, which form one or a row of links on the conductor.
EFFECT: increased value and speed of device inner resistance increase, and also its electric strength at the moment of switching and reduction of a radial dimension.
