FIELD: powdery metallurgy, in particular, methods for production of metal powders of hydride-forming metals and alloys. SUBSTANCE: lumpy hydriding metal or alloy is subjected to vacuum treatment and hydrogenated at pressure with hydrogen of high purity. Dehydrogenation is carried out by heating at the rate of 10-100 C/min up to temperature equalling 0.5-1 critical temperature of respective hydride of metal or alloy with subsequent alternation of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation cycles. EFFECT: higher homogeneity of produced powder and increased efficiency of the process (by two times) due to reduced duration of cycles of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation.
