FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves addition of fluoroneodymium with flux consisting of alkaline and alkaline-earth element chlorides at the ratio 2:1 and magnesium-zirconium master alloy to the liquid magnesium. Ratio between fluoroneodymium and magnesium chloride in flux is maintained at the range 100:(1-4), and flux is used as granules of the size 0.4-2.5 mm. The source of flux: spent electrolyte of magnesium electrolyzer of the following composition, wt.-% magnesium chloride 4-6; sodium chloride 8-18; potassium chloride 72-87, and impurities the rest. Method ensures to increase neodymium extraction to alloy up to 91% EFFECT: decreased zirconium loss. 2 cl, 3 tbl
