FIELD: liquid-crystal technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves use of cerium dioxide for formation of orienting layers by deposition of starting substance on substrate by evaporation with laser or electron beam in vacuum chamber at 10-6- 10-4 and manufacture of layer 10-100 nm thick. Manufactured orienting layer withstands heating up to 100 C and exposure to moisture for long time without change of its propertied and provides for stable planar orientation of molecule of nematic liquid crystals with angle 4-6 deg between director and substrate. EFFECT: improved orientation. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
