FIELD: measuring equipment. SUBSTANCE: measurements are carried out by forming a light flux, dividing it into the first and second streams, directing them at the article from two different directions and producing two shadow images which are projected on a developing photodetector, converting the shadow projections into electric signals, determining duration of video pulses of said signals and durations of time intervals from the beginning or end of the development to the centers of video pulses which are then used to judge about the size and position of the article in two sections. EFFECT: higher informativeness attained by concurrent measurement in two sections. 5 dwg
