FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of feeding metal into a gap between a driven drum, driven rims and a driven belt, embracing the rims; forming an ingot in a radial direction between the drum, the belt and lateral rims; performing deformation of the ingot by reduction of it in a liquid-solid state by motion of the drum; drawing the ingot with variable speed; supporting and directing the belt with use of rollers; cooling the belt on a radial portion of formation of the ingot by water, being sprayed by jets; upon continuous casting process measuring a displacement of the belt relative to the ingot along axis of the rolls and at beginning period of the belt displacement simultaneously increasing and decreasing specific flowrate values of cooling water along a width of the belt symmetrically relative to its lengthwise axis by ±(5-20)% of an operating value according to a rectilinear law; decreasing the specific flowrate values of water for that half of the belt width, towards which the belt is being displaced, and increasing the specific flowrate values of water for the other half of the belt.
