FIELD: surveillance of condition of gas pipelines. SUBSTANCE: temperature contrast of surface area near the pipeline is determined to define the coordinates and dimensions of the probable leakage spot, then the probable leakage spot is subjected to laser radiation treatment at wave-lengths λ1 and λ2. When more than one probable leakage spot appears within the area under examination, the probable leakage spots are subjected to a repeated N-times laser radiation treatment at wave-lengths λ1 and λ2. At a decrease of intensity of laser radiation dissipated by surface at wave-length λ1 down to zero the probable leakage spot is subjected to a repeated laser radiation treatment at wave-lengths λ2 and λ3, according to which the degree of explosion hazard of leakage is determined.
