FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves introduction of dummy bar into space between drum, flanges and belt rounding flanges, feeding liquid metal to the space, and shaping ingot in radial direction. Ingot is in solid-liquid condition as a result of movement of drum relative to the belt. After that ingot is drawn at a variable speed. Dummy bar is introduced to the space up to the level corresponding to angle of sector of drum within the range from 15 to 30 deg. The space is filled with metal up to the level corresponding to an angle being within the range of 2-10 deg relative to horizontal diametrical plane of the drum. EFFECT: enhanced operating capabilities. 3 dwg, 1 tbl
