FIELD: metallurgy; chemical engineering. SUBSTANCE: diaphragm electrolyzer incorporates built-up and electrolytic cells separated from one another by partitions, inclined deflector-type overflow passage made in partition and protruding into built-up cell. Lower edge of overflow passage is inclined at angle of 10 to 45 deg towards electrolytic cell. Deflector angle of tilt relative to horizon ranges from 10 to 80 deg depending on electrolyzer operating conditions and may be changed as needed by means of deflector hinge joint and tilt angle adjusting mechanism. Deflector inclined vault enters into built-up cell up to cover. Deflector's length constitutes 0.2 to 0.6 of width of built-up cell. Minimum distance from lower edge of passage to deflector makes up 0.1 to 0.5 of length of latter. EFFECT: effective separation of electrolysis products. 7 cl, 1 tbl, 1 dwg
