FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely construction of electrolyzers for producing magnesium. SUBSTANCE: electrolyzer includes adjacent electrolytic cells divided by partition. Cathodes are adjoined to walls of bath and to partition of lining. Passages for discharging magnesium are made in partition and(or) in bath walls and their depth is no more than 0.15 of cathode height. It provides maximally favourable conditions for discharging magnesium to accumulating cell. At least one bipolar electrode may be placed between anode and cathode in such a way that it surrounds anode; part of that electrode at anode side is surrounded by cathode adjoining to bath walls. Bipolar electrodes may be made of graphite or they may have steel plate at cathode side. Such construction allows to increase magnesium yield in function of electric current.
