FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely apparatuses for producing magnesium by electrolysis of melt salts.

SUBSTANCE: electrolyzer includes lined casing, electrolysis compartment in which anodes and cathodes are mounted alternatively; built-up cell

separated from electrolysis compartment by means of separating partition having flow-through V-shaped duct and lower duct. Lining of lateral wall of built-up cell has variable width, upper part of lining is wider that its lower part and it has protrusion arranged lower than flow-through duct of separating partition. Lining of lateral wall of built-up cell is made of detachable blocks, upper block is wider than lower block. Protrusion has portion tapered by 30-45 degrees or it is bent. Relation of width of upper portion of lining to width of its lower portion is in range (1.5 - 2): 1.

EFFECT: less loss of electric current yield of magnesium, increased useful life period of lining, lowered cost of repair works.
