FIELD: non- ferrous metallurgy, winning of magnesium by electrolysis of molten salts. SUBSTANCE: electrolyzer to produce magnesium and chlorine has electrolytic compartment housing alternating anodes and cathodes, collecting cell separated from electrolytic compartment by partition with overflow V-shaped conduit with protrusion located beneath inlet of conduit, lower overflow conduit between hearth and partition. Collecting cell has area of horizontal section equal to area of vertical section of lower overflow conduit and amounts to 0.7-1.3 sum of areas of horizontal sections of interelectrode distances between cathodes and anodes. Its lining opposite to overflow conduit is made of electrochemically resistant material. EFFECT: enhanced current efficiency, prolonged service life of collecting cell and electrolyzer as unit. 2 cl, 2 dwg
