SUBSTANCE: method for determining the phase velocity of propagation of electromagnetic waves in transmission line involves modulation of a monochromatic electromagnetic wave by pulsating sequence, dividing the modulated electromagnetic wave into two coherent waves, passing these waves simultaneously through a reference channel and a probing channel from the transmission line under inspection, mixing the waves of both channels at their outlets, detecting the mixed signal with a phase detector, measuring the time delay of the video pulse probing channel from the video pulse of the reference channel and duration of the total video pulse, measuring video pulse amplitudes in time intervals, determining the length of the inspected transmission line, repetition period and phase velocity.
