FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method of melting steel in an open-hearth furnace, mainly by a scrap process, comprises steps of charging scrap and high-carbon ferrous material in quantity, providing a carbon content in the liquid metal after melting a bath more, than its averaged mass portion of a ready steel by 0.35-0.8% introducing slag-forming agents, heating, melting, finishing up and discharging the metal; using as the high-carbon ferrous material a charge material, containing high-carbon ferriferous alloy with a mineral component and graphite, being introduced in quantity, consisting 10-40% of the charge mass in dependance upon a predetermined increased content of mass portion of carbon in the melt. The high-carbon ferriferous alloy includes a mineral component, graphite and high-carbon ferrigerous component at following content of ingredients, mass mineral component (7.0-15.0); graphite (0.2-3.5); high-carbon ferriferous component the balance. Using of the high-carbon ferriferous alloy with the mineral component and graphite in the metal charge allows to remove completely conversion pig iron, to provide carbon content in the liquid metal after melting the bath more, than its averaged value in the ready steel by 0.35-0.8% and to lower consumption of oxidizing agents.
