METHOD AND TIE TAMPER FOR COMPACTING RAILWAY TRACK RUBBLE Russian patent published in 1995 - IPC

FIELD: construction and repairs of railway tracks. SUBSTANCE: tie tamper comprises a frame supported on bogies. Mounted on frame are a base measuring system, tamping unit and lift-and-aligning unit positioned in front of the tamping unit as the machine goes. The tamping unit is comprised of tamping members installed on both sides of the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the machine with a provision for being adjusted for height, moved to said plane by appropriate drives, and installed beyond the ends of track ties. A horizontal guide is installed on the frame across the machine. Tamping members are movably installed on said guide by means of parallelogram suspensions set square to the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the machine. The lower link of each suspension is a hydraulic cylinder while the upper link is connected with the operating mechanism of height setter. The method for compacting the rail track rubble involves lifting the track skeleton to the desired position and compacting the rubble with tamping members in the skeleton lifting zone, simultaneously moving said members along the track. The tamping members execute compacting motions directed towards the track axis on a triangular trajectory. EFFECT: improved functional and operating characteristics. 16 cl, 11 dwg
