FIELD: paint and varnish industry. SUBSTANCE: film-forming agent is produced by oligomerization of monomer-containing technical mixtures which involve coupled dienes, vinylaromatic compounds, olefins in the presence of catalyst titanium tetrachloride followed by treatment of polymerizate with deactivating mixture. Deactivating mixture has the following components, wt. -% propylene oxide 92.9-99.5; phenol and/or acetone 0.4-7.0, and water the rest. Deactivating mixture can contain also 0.07-1.2 wt.-% (as measured per 100 wt. -% components indicated above) C₁-C₈-alkyl ester of acetic, methacrylic or phthalic acid. Phenol: technical phenol with content of basic substance 99.96 wt.-% or technical ortho-phenolic fraction of the following composition, wt.-% phenol 7-12; o-tert.-butylphenol 80-90, and di-tert.-butylphenol the rest.
