FIELD: study of materials. SUBSTANCE: method refers to study of materials by determination of their physical properties, specifically to determination of criteria of destruction of solid bodies, and can be used to determine moment of time of formation of localized seat of destruction in parts of machines and mechanisms, in rock masses while preparing rock bursts and earthquakes. Method solves problem of quantitative determination of moment of time of emergence of pre-rupture state of material. For this purpose one measures times of arrival of n successive signals from cracks formed in material and conducts computations by proposed formula, repeats above mentioned operations for subsequent sets of such signals, plots graph of computed value till it passes through zero, upper and lower boundaries of significant interval determined for point d=0 and moment of time of emergence of pre-rupture state is determined as point of crossing of axis of abscissas by function. Method can be used for prediction of rock bursts, earthquakes, destruction of parts of machines and mechanisms. EFFECT: expanded application field, improved authenticity of predictions. 3 dwg
