FIELD: power engineering. SUBSTANCE: gas generator has cap- shaped chamber 1 and valving plate 3 that forms a housing together with chamber 1. The housing is provided with charge 2 made of a gas generating material and ignitor secured to plate 3. Chamber 1 is made of a gas penetrating material obtained by a powder metallurgy technique. Charge 2 of a gas generating material is made up as a porous gas penetrating layer uniformly applied to the inner surface of chamber 1 to define a space between the layer and valving plate 3.
