FIELD: gas desulfurization. SUBSTANCE: to hydrogen sulfide and steam-containing gas to be purified, oxygen added in such an amount as to obtain gas having 1-20 moles of O2 per 1 mole of H2S. This gas is passed through active carbon at 50-180 C, the carbon being saturated with elemental sulfur and 3 wt % sulfuric acid. At elevated H2S concentrations in initial gas, it is preferable to subject gas to preliminary catalytic purification on a catalyst containing metal oxides such as aluminium and titanium oxides adsorbing elementary sulfur. Exhausted catalyst and active carbon are recovered by means of two-step blowing with H2S-containing gas first at 100-180 and then at 200-400 C. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of purification. 4 cl, 2 dwg
