FIELD: gas treatment. SUBSTANCE: gas is passed through at least one metal oxide- rich catalyst bed and then through final purification filtration bed made from grainy adsorbent different from metal oxide-rich catalyst. In the two beds, elementary sulfur is released and periodically removed in the course of regeneration treatments. Gas leaving catalyst bed contains 250 mg elementary sulfur in 1 cu.nm and enters filtration bed at temperature within the limits between 20 and 180 C. Gas leaving filtration bed has elementary sulfur level not exceeding 30% of the elementary sulfur level of gas entering this bed. EFFECT: enhanced gas desulfurization efficiency. 7 cl, 1 dwg, 2 tbl
