FIELD: chemical industry, more particularly almost complete removal of sulfur compounds H2S, SO2, cos and/or CS2 from off gas from sulfur set-up. SUBSTANCE: off gas is made to contact with catalyst for hydrolysis of cos and CS2 to obtain H2S and if desired, in the presence of air stream with catalyst for oxidation of H2S and preparation of hydrolyzed gas containing H2S and SO2 and free from cos and CS2, and H2S and SO2 volume concentration is maintained in gas so that (H2S)-2(SO2) concentration is above 0.2 %, but less than 0.5%. Said gas is admitted into purification unit in which H2S and SO2 react with each other, said reaction being accompanied by sulfur formation and preparation of substantially purified pure off gas containing H2S as sole sulfur compound. Purified gas is fed at temperatures from 80 to 100 C having excess air into catalyst unit in which H2S becomes completely oxidized into sulfur. Higher than 99.9%; of sulfur compounds are recovered from off gas in the form of sulfur. EFFECT: more efficient removal method. 14 cl, 1 dwg
