FIELD: chemical technology, inorganic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: process is carried out in system including the unit for production of sulfur Klaus 1, reactor for oxidation and hydrolysis 2, refining catalytic unit 3 and furnace for waste combustion 4 connected with flue 5. After sulfur production the residual gas (17b) is passed out from unit 1 and this gas consists of H2O, CO and/or CS2 and H2S and SO2 at mole ratio H2S:SO2≥ 2:1. This gas is fed in unit 2 for oxidation of H2S and catalytic hydrolysis of COS and CS2 at 180-700 C in the presence of air 47. Thus residual gas 38 is obtained that does not contain COS and CS2 but contains H2S and SO2 at mole ratio 2:1 by air flow 47 regulation. Residual gas 38 is fed in refining catalytic unit 3 where reaction of H2S and SO2 occurs and sulfur and refined residual gas 45 were formed. Gas is fed in furnace for waste combustion 4. EFFECT: improved method of sulfur production. 17 cl, 1 dwg
