FIELD: manufacture of ceramic materials. SUBSTANCE: close-roasted β- quartz ceramics has 76.4-99.9 wt % b-quartz and 0.1-23.6 wt % aluminium nitride. To obtain such ceramics, a blend is first prepared followed by shaping of intermediate products and their thermal treatment at temperatures above 1500 C and subsequent cooling. Shaping is performed from a mixture of powders containing b-quartz and aluminium nitride taken in proportion from 999:1 to 68:21. Ceramics thus prepared is characterized by elevated heat resistance, mechanical strength, and reduced specific volume. EFFECT: improved performance of material. 2 cl, 1 tbl
