FIELD: sulfur production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of elementary sulfur from hydrogen sulfide-containing gases according to Claus method. Method of invention consists in burning initial gas in two chambers, the first one receiving acidic gas, fuel, and oxygen-containing gas in excess to quantity of oxygen theoretically required for complete combustion of fuel but less than stoichiometric amount required for oxidation of 1/3 hydrogen sulfide based on its total intake into sulfur dioxide; whereas the second chamber receives hydrogen sulfide and oxygen-containing gases for partial combustion of the former. The latter process is conducted with controlled intake of oxygen such that, in gas leaving catalytic stage, H2SiSO2 molar ratio were 2:1 and combustion temperature in the second chamber would be higher than 850 C. Sulfur formed upon gas combustion is separated from combustion product through cooling, and remaining gases are subjected to next catalytic processing. EFFECT: improved parameters of process. 16 cl, 3 dwg
