FIELD: chemical technology, inorganic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to desulfurization of gases containing H2S and SO2 and if necessary compounds COS and CS2. Gas is contacted with a catalyst formed by CATALYTIC phase associated with silicon carbide as a carrier consisting of at least 40% of the catalyst mass. The process is performed at temperatures that can be above or lower of the dew point of sulfur formed in reaction gases and depending on conditions of the method realization.
