FIELD: radio detector and ranging, in particular, equipment of ships intended for navigation in arctic regions. SUBSTANCE: the method consists in selection of the general direction of ship motion through the sea ice fields of the Earth along the chain of adjacent ice breaks according to the information from an artificial earth satellite with a polar orbit on ice firmness around the present point of ship location just in the process of navigation, the data from the artificial earth satellite with a polar orbit at its passage over the ship are transmitted through the "AES-ship" telemetering communication channel and presented in the form of a large-scale coarse-resolution microwave-radiometering chart of ice field firmness around the ship location at least once every two days from each artificial earth satellite to determine the ship heading to the nearest region of weak ice firmness within the general direction of ship motion; the coordinates of adjacent or connected breaks in the section between the regions of weak ice firmness are defined more exactly with the aid of the ship-borne helicopter equipped with a laser station of detailed chart-making of ices, and the specified coordinates of ice breaks are transmitted in the respective sequence through the radio communication channel to the ship automatic navigator. Operations on data transmission from the artificial earth satellite through the "AES-ship" telemetering channel, presentation of these data in the form of a large- scale microwave-radiometering chart, determination of the ship heading to the nearest region of weak ice firmness within the general direction of ship motion, specification of the coordinates with the aid of the ship-borne helicopter, and their transmission through radio communication channel to the ship automatic navigator are repeated after each passage of the artificial earth satellite over the present point of ship location. EFFECT: facilitated procedure. 2 cl
