FIELD: urban and industrial water supply systems. SUBSTANCE: in course of each cycle of measurement of flow velocity in preset area of its cross section st partial interlocking, mechanical action of flow is converted into linear shift of interlocking area; having preset required number of discrete sections of shift of this area, sequence of standard pulses is formed of limited number of groups; each subsequent group has one pulse more as compared with previous group; two-short-duration pulses are formed from first standard pulse of sequence and first of these pulses is added to analog pulses of previous cycles of measurement separating information group of standard pulses by means of second short-duration pulse; information pulses are formed from this group; these pulses correspond to leading and trailing edges of pulses of information group; amount of instantaneous flow rate is judged from their number. Total flow rate is judged from number of measurement cycles corrected for disagreement of real flow rate with its minimum possible magnitude with the pipe line filled to capacity. Device for realization of this method includes velocity sensor and secondary instrument. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of determination of capacity of pumping stations and water conduits for setting rational modes of operations. 3 cl, 4 dwg
