FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to extra-furnace processing of metal in production of low-carbon steel sorts containing less than 0.01% carbon, including electric steels. When evacuating non-deoxidized steel with addition of iron oxide-based solid oxidant into vacuum chamber, the oxidant is used in the form of flux in amount providing proportion between oxygen in iron oxides and metal carbon as high as 0.5-3.0 stoichiometrically required quantity for additionally oxidizing carbon to target concentration with following weight ratio of components: (FeO + Fe2O3 + Fe3O4) : CaO : CaF2 = 1.000:(0.400-0.290):(0.029-0.040). Solid oxidant is added into vacuum chamber in a number of portions. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 2 cl
