FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has crystallizer, feeding headpiece with variable section channel and plug inserted into channel in spaced relation to channel wall so as to define annular gap and close channel in the portion of channel having minimum section. Channel has section initially narrowing in the direction of pouring metal, widening and having minimum section in the middle portion at distance of at least 7 cm from each end of headpiece. At inlet end of headpiece, gap between headpiece and plug is narrowing in metal pouring direction. Minimum distance between plug end and outlet end of headpiece in open working position is 2 cm.
