FIELD: metallurgy; continuous casting of steel. SUBSTANCE: to produce steel with especially low content of carbon, steel is subjected to treatment in vacuum chamber by stream and circulation degassing with supply to one of nozzles of vacuum chamber of inert gas. In steel treatment, steel is circulated from tundish to vacuum chamber and back with weight flow rate exceeding that from tundish to molds by 2-10 times. In this case, inert gas flow rate to one of nozzles of vacuum chamber is set within g=(1.2-6.5)nQ, and diameter of metal stream in this nozzle is set within D=(5-25)nQ, where Q is weight flow rate of metal from tundish to molds, 4/min; n is number of circulations (crossflows) of metal from tundish into vacuum chamber and back, dimensionless; (1.2-6.5) is empirical coefficient with consideration of hydraulic laws of metal rise in this nozzle, by inert gas bubbles, cu. m x min/t x h; (5-25) is empirical coefficient considering hydraulic laws of metal flow in this nozzle, mm x min/t.
