FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method consists in radiation of acoustic pulse along base direction, in usage of information pulse for adjustment of frequency of repetition of count pulses, in organization of process of autocirculation of pulses probing distance to checked object and in determination of given distance by number of county pulses generated in the course of time interval necessary for registration of specified number of probing pulses. Simultaneously with base direction acoustic signal is radiated in direction of checked object and is used to organize process of autocirculation of probing pulses. Acoustic pulse passed fixed distance along base direction is scattered and duration of information pulse is chosen equal to double interval of time between moments of radiation and scattering of acoustic pulse. Device proposed for realization of method has ultrasonic transducer composed of piezoconverter, scatterer of acoustic pulses displaced with reference to piezoconverter by fixed distance along base direction and electron unit. First beam of two-ray radiation pattern is oriented along base direction with spatial orientation of second beam is direction of checked object.
