FIELD: measurement technology, determination of level of industrial-drinkable water in reservoirs of water supply systems. SUBSTANCE: in agreement with method layer by layer probing of reservoir with provision for correction of repetition rate of pulses is organized for probing of each next layer as well as monitoring of level in case of partial filling of the latter or of each next conditional level of reservoir. For realization of given method acoustic sensor of device is suggested to be manufactured in the form of measurement tube with cylindrical piezoconverters uniformly positioned in it and secondary instrument to be composed of unit of commutation of probing pulses, unit of commutation of information signals, unit of formation of output signal and unit of formation of counting pulses.
