FIELD: analytical methods. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to thin-layer chromatography of amino acids and may find use in examining purity of industrially produced amino acids and also in medicine: for diagnosing hereditary metabolic defects. Amino acids are separated by two-dimensional thin- layer chromatography with successively using two chromatographic systems of solvents: isopropyl alcohol-acetone-24-25% ammonia-water at volume ratio (19.0-27.0): (20.0-26.0): (3.0-6.5): (6.0-10.0) and chloroform-ethanol-ice acetic acid-water at volume ratio (23.0- 27.0):(13.5-16.0):(4.5-6.5):(1.3-3.5). To detect amino acids, ninhydrin reagent and additionally Ehrlich's and Nessler's reagents are utilized. EFFECT: optimized analytic procedure.
